Online Summer School organized by Asian Institute of Technology

Innovation on Remote Sensing Education and Learning (IRSEL) ERASMUS+ Project Summer School was online hosted by Asst. Prof. Sarawut Ninsawat and team from Remote Sensing and GIS Program, Department of ICT, School of Engineering and Technology, Asian Institute of Technology from 20 July – 3 August 2020. The project, which started in October 2017, is funded by ERASMUS+ Programme of the European Union with the aims to develop and provide an innovative learning platform on Remote Sensing. Twenty learning modules are being developed by experts in the fields from European and Asian partner universities.

In this summer school, the e-learning materials which are a key result of this project were used to execute the online teaching. The expert teachers from eight universities jointly conducted the teaching with online lectures, hands on practices on specified case studies and group discussions. In the first week, the generic modules were covered where the participants were educated with the basic principles, methods, techniques and tools of remote sensing. In the second week, the thematic modules which were prepared on different application themes were discussed.

Twenty-nine students from Asian Institute of Technology (Thailand), Khon Khen University (Thailand), Fujian Normal University (China) and Yunan Normal University (China) participated in this summer school. Each group of students from each university developed mini projects on various topics. The knowledge and skills obtained from the summer school was adapted to deliver the project outputs. European and Asian partners jointly advised, critically analyzed and provided comments during the proposal, progress and final presentation.
